Located in Lake in the Hills, Illinois, TVMA Academy is proud to offer traditional Taekwondo training for all ages and experience levels.

General Information

What is TVMA Academy?
TVMA Academy is a Kukkiwon-certified Taekwondo school located in Lake in the Hills, IL. We teach traditional Korean martial arts with a modern, student-centered approach. Our mission is to help students grow in confidence, discipline, and self-defense.

Where are you located?
Our school is located at 421 N. Randall Rd, Lake in the Hills, IL, serving families in Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Huntley, Cary, and surrounding areas.

Who teaches the classes?
Classes are led by Master Eric Ford, a certified 4th Dan Black Belt and Class 3 International Taekwondo Master. TVMA is a registered USATKD club, and Master Eric has passed SafeSport training and background screening through the National Center for Safety Initiatives.

Kids Martial Arts Classes

What age can my child start Taekwondo?
Children as young as 3-5 can join our Tiny Lions program. We also offer age-specific classes for kids 6–8, 9–12, and teens. See our blog post Is my 5 year old ready for martial arts?

How is Taekwondo different from other kids’ sports?
Martial arts teaches life skills like focus, respect, and discipline in every class. Each child progresses at their own pace, no benchwarmers here.

What if my child is shy or struggles with focus?
Our instructors are trained to work with children of all personalities and learning styles. Many of our most confident students today started off shy or uncertain.

Adult Martial Arts

Do you have adult Taekwondo classes?

Is Taekwondo good for stress relief and mental clarity?
Absolutely. Martial arts improves focus, reduces stress, and provides a powerful outlet for mental and physical wellness.

Self-Defense & Confidence

Will my child learn how to protect themselves?
Yes. We teach practical self-defense skills appropriate for each age group. Just as important, we teach students how to build confidence, stay aware, and set boundaries.

Can women and girls benefit from Taekwondo?
Definitely. Our female students gain confidence, self-reliance, and strength both mentally and physically—through martial arts training.

Trial Classes & Registration

How do I schedule a trial class?
You can schedule your free trial by emailing us at Info@TVMA.Academy or by using the contact form on our website.

What should I wear to my first class?
Wear comfortable workout clothes—no shoes, socks, or jewelry on the mat. We’ll go over uniforms (dobok) and gear options if you decide to enroll.

Gear, Uniforms, & Equipment

Where do I get uniforms or sparring gear?
All approved gear is available through the TVMA Pro Shop. We’ll ensure proper fit and safety certification.

What gear do I need for sparring?
For sparring, students will eventually need: WT-approved headgear, chest protector, gloves, shin and forearm guards, mouthguard, and groin protection (for males).

Tuition & Discounts

How much does it cost to join TVMA Academy?
We offer flexible pricing options and exclusive family discounts. Contact us for current tuition rates and to schedule your free trial.

Do you offer family discounts or packages?
Yes! We offer a discount for families and 10% off for teachers, military, and law enforcement.

Do I need to sign a long-term contract?
No. We offer monthly memberships with no long-term commitment required.

Belt Testing & Progression

How does belt testing work?
Students are invited to test when they demonstrate readiness across multiple areas: poomsae, sparring, technique, discipline, etiquette, and philosophy.

How often do belt tests occur?
Testing is offered every 2 months, but only for students who consistently demonstrate the required skills and commitment.

What if a student doesn’t pass their test?
Students who do not pass receive a “Commitment to Growth” certificate and a personalized improvement plan. We value growth over perfection.

Is your curriculum recognized by Kukkiwon?
Yes. We follow the official World Taekwondo curriculum. Black belt ranks are may qualify to be Kukkiwon-certified and internationally recognized. Please see our affiliations to learn more.

Safety & Policies

Is Taekwondo safe for young children?
Yes. Safety is our top priority. Classes are age-appropriate, and instructors are trained to teach in a structured, supportive environment.

Do you separate beginners from advanced students?
Yes. We group classes by age and experience level to ensure proper pacing, challenge, and support for all students.
